These children, some as young as 3 years old, woke at 4am and walked with their parents three hours from Hacienda San Juan into Copan town to get fitted for their new school uniforms … but their smiles definitely say that it was worth it! Afterward everyone celebrated with empanadas and (healthy) drinks. What a fun day!!!!
Project School Supplies
Village schools in rural Honduras are desperate for help. Most of them literally have no books, blackboards, desks or bookshelves. Many times the students are sitting on cement floors under leaky roofs. These schools do not have bathrooms, fences or sufficient teaching materials.
Project School Supplies was founded in 2007 by Ellen Finn and has since evolved from supplying schools with educational materials to completely rebuilding decrepit schools, renovating and supplying libraries, providing beds for young children and many more diverse programs.
Project School Supplies is also involved in health care initiatives such as vitamin and anti-parasitic medicine distribution, kindergarten feeding programs, visiting doctor clinics to rural areas and dental health and hygiene workshops.
Project School Supplies' mission is to improve the quality of life for children and their families in rural villages near Copan Ruinas, Honduras.
