Pinalito School

A very bumpy two hour drive straight up hill for a couple hours. So difficult in spots that we had to get out and push our four wheel drive out of the mud, but when we got there the view was magnificent! 360 degrees of pristine nature and the smell of coffee flowers blooming.

Happy to arrive, I jumped out of the truck only to find out we were about to climb a mile straight upward. And I don’t mean a hill, I mean UPWARD! (Why did i decide to bring 6 watermelons for the kids?????)

An amazing community… friendly, helpful, and very appreciative of our visit. The school is made out of adobe and holds 39 students with only 11 student desks. It has a mud floor and is the only school I have ever seen without a single piece of paper or a pencil. The teacher didn’t even have a pencil!

Okay, so they needed a few things. We ate watermelon and discussed needs. The list was 3 pages long.

They invited us for a big lunch afterward . They made three different seatings for us, since the family only had 3 dishes and three spoons and had to wash the dishes after each of us ate to provide for the rest of the group, but managed to give us chicken soup, corn, vegies, tortillas, fruit, coca cola of course, and some other goodies. My next trip back will be with a gift for the family that hosted us.
.
As always, I came home exhausted, covered in dust, mud, chicken feathers, childrens hand prints and unbelievably happy!!!
